Session 2: 2:15PM – 3:15PM

ED/Owner Track:
Using Training Techniques to Recruit Top Talent
Speaker:  Linda Leekley, BS, RN, Founder & CEO, In the Know
Your caregivers WANT and NEED quality training. Without training, 81% of your caregivers will quit within three months of being hired. Assigning a caregiver to care for a client for whom they have little or no training, places the caregiver at risk for stress and injury. This risk is what drives many caregivers to quit. It’s more important than ever to make sure your caregivers have the training they need. With the industry being as dynamic as it is, keeping your people trained on an ongoing basis is one of the most important jobs you have.  Learn about new training techniques and programs that will benefit your staff and your residents.

Management Track:
Public Policy and How it Affects You
Speaker:  Corky Kyle, MPA, CAE, CALA Executive Vice President
Every year, 100 legislators gather in Denver, act on over 650 bills and created new public policy that dictates how our regulatory agencies will regulate us.  Learn about new legislation and rules and regs, and what it means to your management of your assisted living facility.

Session 3: 3:30PM – 4:30PM

ED/Owner Track:
Future Workforce Trends in Assisted Living
Speaker:  Brandon McReynolds, Ph.D, Colorado Workforce Development Council and the Colo. Dept. of Higher Education
Employment projections predict significant labor shortages in Colorado. There are shortages of skilled staff people in every profession. Where are we going to find the people to work in assisted living.  Is the problem going to get better, probably not? Come learn about the future workforce and what is being done to address these barriers.

Management Track:
5 Ways to Supervise Across 5 Generations
Speaker:  Linda Leekley, BS RN, Founder & CEO, In the Know
We live in a world where the workforce now spans FIVE GENERATIONS. This is a phenomenon never seen before in history. Your team could potentially be made up of: 70-year-olds, the “Silent Generation” (born 1925 to 1945). 50 and 60-year-olds, the “Baby Boomers” (born 1946 to 1964). 40-year-olds, “Generation X” (born 1965 to 1979). 30-year-olds, “Millennials” (born 1980 to late 1990s). 20-year-olds, “Centennials” (born late 1990’s to 2010s). Should Your Workplace Change for All These Generations? The short answer is “yes.” But, your workplace does not need to accommodate every “quirk” and “whim” associated with the different generations. It simply needs to become more RESPONSIVE to the needs of EACH individual on your team.

5:00PM – 7:00PM

CALA Exhibitor Partner Cocktail Reception
End your day of learning with getting together with friends, colleagues, and exhibitor partners for a great evening of networking and relaxation in the exhibit area sponsored by Good Day Pharmacy Renew old friendships and start new ones. You won’t want to miss this exciting event.

Session 2: Caregiver Track

"This is 9-1-1, What is your Emergency"
Speaker:  Daryl Branson, State 911 Program Manager, Colorado Dept. of Regulatory Agencies
9-1-1 Professionals, also referred to as ‘dispatchers” or ‘call takers,” are often the first trained point of contact in an emergency? They begin the important work of obtaining essential information, remaining calm, calming others, and sending the appropriate responders to the right location. They may also provide instructions to the 9-1-1 caller, which in many cases is essential to stabilizing or saving a life. While having all employees undergo training may not be possible, there are still important roles for them to play in recognizing when something is wrong. Quick, effective action can be the difference between life and death when an emergency occurs. In this session you will learn tips and guidelines when making a 911 call.  9-1-1 call takers are trained to get the most important information as quickly as possible to get help on the way to an emergency. Is your staff prepared?
