Attendees will learn where regulation is coming from... what the current Washington administration is doing in the coming year... how to discern when federal or state regulations supersede the other... specific audit targets... how to proactively protect their businesses and how to manage response to when auditors present themselves.

Emergency Preparedness (E.D./Owner/Manager Track)
Presented by: Emergency Preparedness Experts

Explore resources for emergency preparedness, management and procedures to provide direct assistance and support to assisted living residences in Colorado.Colorado’s Situational Awareness Tool (SATool) will be explored. The SATool is a web-based portal to an information system that can facilitate communications in an emergency event across jurisdictions and professional disciplines. This session is funded by a grant program provided by the CDPHE.

What Every QMAP Needs to Know About Medication
Administration and More

Presented by: Nancy Lamb, RPh, Good Day Pharmacy

As they say, the devil is in the details. This class will help you learn what you need to know to keep your resident’s safe and to be prepared for your state survey. We will review the details of a great med pass, problem medications, medication storage issues, narcotic count at end of shift, how to prevent medication errors and more. State deficiencies that are based on the QMAP performance will be discussed and you will find out how to be a deficiency free facility. Best practices will be discussed with take home material so that you can share what you learn.

Team Building – Fit vs. Talent!? (Manager Track)
Presented by: National Speaker, Lon Kieffer, RN, BSN

Lon Kieffer applies his award winning expertise in workplace culture change and generational conflict to the issue of team building and humorously explores the diverging strategies of "Fit vs. Talent!?" when building a dynamic team in an ever-changing and uncertain Healthcare landscape. Managers will: 1) learn how to objectively determine the true value of a prospective team member with regards to both "Fit" and "Talent." 2 ) learn a new perspective on determining if a team is rooted in stability or complacency and 3) will recognize the need for accommodation with accountability in team building efforts.

Resident Abuse and Neglect – Identifying Your Role and Managing Relationships (Manager Track)
Presented by: Pamela Wilson, The Care Navigator, CSA, MS, BS/BA

What happens when you suspect abuse or neglect but aren’t really sure what’s true or false? Residents with memory loss tell you they’re being abused, but what if they tell tall tales all the time? Family members seem caring but there are times when stories and information appear inconsistent. How do you know what’s really happening without allowing your emotions to get the best of you? In this session, learn how to: 1) gain understanding on what’s really happening and establish an accurate perspective 2) acknowledge the challenges of the situation, knowing that empathy is not agreement 3) understand the keys to: communication, setting boundaries, working with family relationships, and reporting situations that are beyond your expertise.
